This is a drum cover of Tower of Power – Soul Vaccination.
In this song, David Garibaldi created a truly unique drum part that is still considered a benchmark in funk drumming. The groove, use of ghost notes, dynamics, and overall rhythmic concept make this performance both complex and deeply musical.
Garibaldi’s work has had a major influence on my drumming. During my years at music school, we studied from several of his books, which helped shape my understanding of groove, time, and feel.
This cover is a tribute to David Garibaldi and the music of Tower of Power.
