Finally, I may properly show BioMenace Remastered, including the new 4th episode! The complete product was released as v1.0.5 on Dec 18 2025, a short while before 18 UTC time. I was running v1.0.8 in a Linux desktop environment using Wine, via Steam Proton.
Note: You might find a few issues, here and there. For instance, you may notice that while having classic (EGA) sprites and portraits toggled, a subset (at least of the demonstrated portraits) still use modern graphics.
Note 2: To explain why the stats don't match 100% here, I had a look at level 5's stats before approaching the exit and probably misread one of them as 100%. With the lack of an earlier nearby saved game, I decided to continue with my playthrough.
BioMenace / Bio Menace, the original DOS game, is known as James Norwood's game. Its soundtrack was composed by Robert Prince.
lethal-guitar is Rigel Gameworks' founder, and also the main person and programmer behind BioMenace Remastered. Covered in this video is the new 4th episode. Bartjaah/Dosgamert was involved in marketing and QA/testing management, and also worked on level design and art. Roobar was the lead artist and level designer. Dark also contributed new levels and graphics. Zilem further contributed new art, with greater emphasis on sprite graphics, along with changes to a few maps. In addition to lethal-guitar's earlier reverse-engineering work covering episode 1 and a subset of episode 2, K1n9_Duk3's similar reverse-engineering of episodes 1-3, including new source comments and the July 1992 beta, were further very useful. Myrgharok composed new music. As for me, I worked on level design and had the occasional instances of graphical editing, including partial conversions of sprite graphics to EGA. I helped a bit on the coding side with implementing the use of new frames for Snake Logan while he's pushing a block.
In addition to the 4th episode consisting of new levels, you should be able to spot new features and modifications like smoother scrolling, widescreen view, higher-res graphics and parallax background. There's more to see here, including features new to episode 4.
Regarding EGA graphics, as of v1.0.8, episode 4 is restricted to a subset of the sprite and portrait graphics. That said, you may still use more 16-colors EGA visuals in episodes 1-3 if you want to. Most of the tutorial level also has EGA graphics as an option.
The playthrough was done on hard difficulty. I was completing levels without deaths of Snake, while using the "Restart Level" feature. I was not creating or using saved games manually, unless I wanted to do specific things.
