Why I care about shortening your belt in the right way
When I was 14 I got a very nice leather belt as a gift. It was too long and needed to be shortened. I took it to the nearest shoe repairer. The belt got shortened but the new slot for the buckle tongue was jaggard and the once domed rivets had been flattened worse than a camping pancake. I’ve always tried to do better than that even when it takes more time.
Having a belt that hangs out when you are wearing it is not generally a good look.
There's 2 common ways to shorten a belt. You can take your vege knife to the tip of the belt and hack off the excess. Or the tidy way, which is to shorten it at the buckle end.
How much to shorten it? Belts commonly come with 5 holes. As rule aim to be using the middle hole once you have shortened it. This means you can still shorten it or lengthen it to suit using the holes either side of the centre hole.
