Today I would like to talk Why you should become be a Polymath?
How can you benefit from the traits of a polymath?
Let me start with something you have noticed.
I know that the videos I create are not of very good quality.
The camera angle, not so great. I don't use professional lighting.
When I edit I do not do colour correction,
I do simple editing, with just sequencing and overlapping.
But, the question here is, was I able to do what I wanted?
That is to share my ideas and perspectives. I believe I was able to.
What I like to emphasize here is that, even though it was not perfect, I was able to do what I wanted to do.
Because if it was video effects you wanted to see you would watching a Marvel movie in a theatre not in the mobile listening to a simple man like me.
The highlight here is that I didn't have to wait for others to do it. I was able to do it myself.
Whenever you want to start something it is easy when you are polymath because you will never back out just because you didn't get a person do something which requires specific skills.
I am not saying you must do everything by yourself. But at times when the time is short and stakes are high, you will be able to step up to the situation.
Let me remind you. I am not good at everything, but I can learn to do anything.
This unique skill which I developed, to learn without fear, to fail without regret has helped me in many places.
When I was awarded the TechExpert award 2018, it was not because I made the perfect product,
but I found most number of things which my company should not use.
Sounds hilarious, right? But it is the truth, and the reason I always stood out is I was not scared to learn new technology and build something in it.
Most of the times I failed to achieve I set out to yet I learned something from each attempt.
As a cascading effect, my research helped the company to rule out the stacks which they couldn't use and then they groomed me as a Solutions Architect for the digitalization products.
You must be wondering if it just about work. No, it is not the case. 1 week back, my flat-mate proposed to play a new game which no-one else knew. So others back out but not me. I tried it out, and to my surprise, I liked it.
So the point, the being a polymath helps you expand your horizon, to do things which you used to tell, its not my cup of tea. Because to get what you want, sometimes you need to do things you don't like.
Leonardo da Vinci, considered as the greatest polymath of all time was my inspiration when I was a kid. This obsession transformed me from an introvert to a person who could talk in front of thousands, dance without practicing and do things I like without the fear of social scrutiny.
The world is designed to be filed with specialists who are more amenable to the ruling society. But a polymath is not someone who liked to be ruled. We are free spirits who like to wander in the realm of knowledge and skills. Believing in the creation rather than the profession.
