Happy National Moth Week! Butterfly Pavilion has just received Urania Swallowtail Moths all the way from El Salvador! These day-flying moths have a lifespan of about two months, so be sure to visit them in our Wings of the Tropics butterfly conservatory exhibit while you still can.
Urania Swallowtail Moths are highly migratory invertebrates due to their reliance on Omphalea Trees. These trees are toxic to most animals and have evolved to increase their toxicity in response to predation by moth caterpillars. This ongoing adaptation forces these Swallowtail Moths to seek new Omphalea trees in different areas to lay their eggs.
Visit Butterfly Pavilion to learn more about these fascinating moths.
