Poland has invested nearly 5% of GDP in defense, hosts 10,000 American troops, and maintains the largest army in East-Central Europe, demonstrating its commitment to NATO, regional security, and shared democratic values. Greenland, Nawrocki underscored, is a critical geopolitical and strategic asset, central to maintaining freedom, independence, and deterrence against authoritarian powers.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb described the current phase as “NATO 3.0”, highlighting how the alliance has expanded and modernized following the accession of Finland and Sweden. Finland maintains conscription and boasts the largest Arctic-trained military capability in NATO, demonstrating that Europe is taking increasing responsibility for its own defense. Stubb emphasized diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions with the U.S. while preparing for a NATO summit in Ankara focused on Arctic security.

European Investment Bank President Nadia Calvino confirmed Europe’s financial commitment, noting the allocation of hundreds of billions of euros to defense and strategic infrastructure projects, including critical investments in Poland to bolster NATO’s eastern flank. Sanofi CEO Paul Hudson emphasized the importance of health sovereignty and innovation as integral components of collective defense, ensuring the availability of essential medicines during crises.

The panel offered a comprehensive analysis of how NATO is evolving, the strategic significance of Greenland and the Arctic, and the balance between diplomacy, investment, and military readiness. The discussion reaffirmed that Europe is capable of defending itself, provided that countries act with solidarity, invest in defense, and maintain strong transatlantic relationships.
