in 1966, Marie Van Brittan Brown, an African American inventor, created the first home security system with the assistance of her husband Albert Brown.
Her invention was registered as "Home Security System Utilizing Television Surveillance “ a.ka. CCTV.
In 1969, Marie Van Brittan Brown and her husband received a patent for their invention under the U.S. Patent number 3,482,037.
She was recognized in The New York Times was awarded by the National Scientists Committee for her work.
