Clara Schumann was one of the most important and influential figures in 19th-century European music culture, not only as a virtuoso pianist, but also as a composer whose contributions are increasingly recognized. The song "Am Strande" (1840) is set to a German adaptation of a poem by Robert Burns "On the Shore". It reflects on themes of love, sorrow and nature. At VMMF, our focus is on historical performance, and this performance is made extra special by the use of a Franz Rausch Fortepiano made in 1841.
