This is a telegram from the president of the San Francisco Downtown Association, William G. Merchant to the US Secretary of State, Cordell Hull. Sent in September of 1943, just days before the 78th Congress was scheduled to reconvene, the telegram talks about Cordell Hull’s support for the repealing of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. This video will take a closer look at the telegram as well as briefly talk about the background and the changes in Sino-US relations during WW2.
