This video was produced through the West Kimberley LCDC Smart Farms Small Grant project: 'Bringing soil back to life through waterponding'.
Waterponding is a technique for rehabilitation of bare, eroded claypan. Banks are surveyed and constructed to pond 10cm of water to: stop erosion cycle – soak rainfall into soil – re-establish plant life – regenerate functioning soil. See background on Ray Thompson’s waterponding here from regenTV: • Creating waterponds to tackle the drought ...
The video provides a guide to implement waterponding with focus on how to construct waterponds with a grader for more operators to learn and use this technique.
Huge thanks to Ray Thompson and Ben McKillop for their incredible work. Special thanks to Kevin, Wendy and Stephen Brockhurst of Larrawa Station for making this video possible and their ongoing support of landscape rehabilitation. And to Matt Fletcher, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) who was a driving force and huge support behind this project, and especially this video, from start to finish.
This project was delivered by the West Kimberley LCDC in collaboration with DPIRD and Rangelands NRM, with funding support from the Australian Government's National Landcare Program.
