Akbar's tomb is a well known tomb of the Mughal emperor Akbar. It was constructed from 1605–1613 by his son, Jahangir and is located on 150 acres of grounds in the Sikandra area of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, on the Mathura road (NH2), which is 8 km west-northwest of the Agra city center. About 1 km away from the Akbar's tomb, lies, Mariam-uz-Zamani's tomb, who was his favourite wife, who after the death of badshah Akbar laid a huge garden around his tomb and was later buried there by Jahangir.

After Akbar's death, his son Jahangir also planned and completed the construction of his father's tomb from the year 1605 to 1613. It cost a whopping 15,00,000 rupees to build and took 3 or 4 years to complete. Mariam-uz-Zamani, after the death of her husband, Akbar, laid a large garden around his tomb.

During the rule of Aurangzeb, Jats made rebellion under their leader Raja Ram Jat. Mughal prestige suffered a huge blow when Jats ransacked the tomb of Akbar, plundered and looted the gold, jewels, silver, as well as carpets. The grave was opened and not only that but Akbar's bones were burned.
