In this video, I share my review of Called to Peace by Joy Forrest, a book written for Christian women navigating emotionally destructive marriages and complex faith questions around peace, endurance, and separation.
Many survivors are taught that staying quiet, staying married, or staying compliant is what faith requires—often at great personal cost. Called to Peace challenges some of these narratives, and in this review I reflect on what the book offers, what it does well, and where survivors may need additional clarity, support, or safeguards.
This book discusses:
How “peace” is often misunderstood in abusive or controlling marriages
The spiritual tension survivors feel between faith, safety, and self-preservation
Scriptures that were used to trap you in the relationship and God's view of marriage and autonomy for believers.
Called to Peace also offers support groups and advocates to help victims find support and recover from domestic violence.
