The Teddy-bear Cholla (Cylindropuntia bigelovii) often forms fairly thick stands that are known locally as "Cholla Forests."
While not exactly a true tree per se, the cholla does have a woody trunk. When living or recently dead, this trunk is very strong - just like the trunk of a pine or maple tree, you'd need a saw to cut it. But after several years of intense weathering under the heat and light of the desert, these trunks become brittle and fragile. I hope you enjoyed learning more about these amazing plants!
