U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to build a new class of powerful American battleships, branding the initiative the “Golden Fleet.” Speaking at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said the United States urgently needs modern naval firepower, arguing existing ships are aging and obsolete.

Trump claimed the new battleships would be 100 times more powerful than the iconic Iowa-class vessels, featuring heavy steel armor and unmatched lethality. He said the ships would be built in the United States to revive domestic shipyards and strengthen the steel industry.

The plan envisions starting with two battleships, rapidly expanding to ten, and eventually reaching 20 to 25 vessels. Trump also criticized defense contractors for slow production, vowing to pressure companies to invest more in factories rather than executive pay, dividends, or stock buybacks.
