➡️ Apparently this is the song that helped define the emo sound — which threw me off, because it doesn’t sound like the “emo” I know of. “Seven” by Sunny Day Real Estate feels more like post-hardcore with a poetic streak: moody chords, winding bass lines, and a sense of melodic restlessness between each layer. Nate Mendel’s playing especially stood out to me — quite unexpected, melodic, fluid, and constantly in motion showing the musical blueprint that would eventually anchor Foo Fighters’ sound.
