How did it do? First snow ride Lectric XPeak 2.0 on Frances Slocum trails in Pennsylvania.

I took the XPeak out to the crusty snow covered trails of Frances Slocum state park in Pennsylvania. The snow was between 1 and 3 inches.

In this video, I am riding the bike in 1st gear and using various passenger assist levels to see what works best. The video shows the majority of the ride, and I tell you the assist level that I am using and then how well it is working relative to the trail characteristics at the time or what kind of issues I am having using the assist.

The main issue that I found was when trying to start riding again on an incline. I am used to holding the rear brake and then getting my feet into position to start forward. I then wanted to hit the throttle to aid me in this forward movement, but the throttle is disengaged when the brake is pressed, so it was difficult to get going again and sometimes I just had to walk it to a better spot to start riding again. This was unexpected and surprising. I went into this thinking that the assist was going to allow me to motor through the tougher areas.

I also had to walk a whole section and cut that part out of the video, because the trail was narrow and off-camber. I could not ride more that a few feet without sliding off the trail. The assist did nothing to help.

Even when I was traveling at a nice pace on incline and on a fairly smooth section, the assist would be doing its job and pushing me along the trail. It was easy though to have the front wheel get caught up in the snow causing me to veer to the side and have to stop and start up again.

Finally, one critique of the XPeak itself would be that I could not clear many log overs or rocks and had to stop and lift the bike over them. The guard around the sprocket is plastic and would easily be broken. Lectric advertises this as a trail bike, so I would think they would set the sprocket guard up as a metal bash guard instead of plastic. When you have to stop to carry over obstacles, it can really kill a nice flow.
