Microgrooves : Unwelcomed [live-sampling Nara Leão]

The sample is from "Em Tempo de Adeus" by Nara Leão.

The Random Jams are on hold for a while but I'll keep myself busy with this new Microgrooves series. The premise is to sample some vinyl on the fly and turn those samples into short hip-hop jams. The setup is pretty straightforward : the heavy lifting is done by the Octatrack, which records the song into a pre-sliced sample slot. Once the recording is done, I can access all the slices through MIDI (either from the Digitakt or the Keystep). From there all the sequencing is handled by the Digitakt. On the MIDI tracks, I control the sample chops from the Octatrack, on the audio tracks, I have all those drum/bass/FX samples playing from the Digitakt itself. (The Octatrack has a sequencer too but I prefer to use the Digitakt for this as it's more flexible in my opinion.) The Octatrack is used to add some effects on the samples, like the filter in the intro or the stutter effect around 0:58.

Every element was recorded separately in Logic where I added some reverb and delay. I mixed the whole thing and mastered the result with Izotope Ozone 9. I did some minor edits too because my timing sux, lol.


Anywayyy, hope you guys will enjoy those little guitar-less jams! I got into synths and drum machines because of sampling and it feels good to bring this part of me on the channel.
