Little Owl Photography at Staffordshire Wildlife Hides

In this episode, me and Pops head out to Staffordshire Wildlife Hides on a mission to photograph one of Britain’s most charismatic and elusive birds: the Little Owl.

These tiny predators may be small, but they’re full of attitude—and they’re not easy to photograph. With their piercing yellow eyes and quick, unpredictable movements, getting a clean shot takes patience, precision, and a bit of luck.

We arrive early, set up in the hide, and wait—hoping for that golden moment when one of these mysterious birds shows itself. Along the way, we talk camera gear, fieldcraft, and the strange joy of sitting still for hours hoping for a bird to land on the right perch. You’ll see our process from start to finish: the gear we bring, how we approach wildlife photography, and how we keep each other going (mostly with terrible dad jokes and shared snacks).
