On Location in Terrace with Jaimie Davis

In this episode of On Location, I sit down with Jaimie Davis, founder of Jada Creations, a cedar weaver, jewelry designer, sculptor, and painter from the Gitxsan & Nisga’a Nations. A member of the Lax̱skiik (Eagle) Clan, Wilp Sakhumhiigookh, her eagle name Sagayt Gabuux means “When the wind blows, everything sprouts.”

Through her business, she revitalizes her culture by creating wearable art. Jaimie specializes in jewelry design and also works in cedar weaving, painting, and wood sculpture. She is a graduate of the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art and has received multiple awards, including the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal, Eighth Generation’s Inspired Natives award, and Small Business BC’s Best Solopreneur.

From her graduation with honours (and the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal) from the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art, to painting the mural at the Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park Visitor Centre, this interview highlights her deep connection to culture, land, and identity.

We explore how she balances being a single mother and entrepreneur, how her art became a healing path to reclaim her Indigenous identity, and how her creations act as wearable stories that inspire awareness and combat cultural appropriation.
