The Houthis, an Iran-backed rebel group controlling parts of Yemen have engaged in an ongoing campaign of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, aiming to pressure it in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Since October 2023, following the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war, the Houthis have launched over 200 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones at Israeli territory, often from over 1,000 miles away. The Houthis launch a mix of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones from Yemen, over 1,000 miles away, often taking unpredictable trajectories. Israel doesn’t consistently fail to detect Houthi missiles, however, challenges arise due to the nature of Houthi attacks, which occasionally exploit gaps or test the limits of Israel’s defenses.
