Exploring Dubrovnik’s Famous Landmarks | First-Time Travel Guide 🇭🇷
1.PORPORELA - Porporela is a pier and breakwater in Dubrovnik’s Old Harbour (see arrow on the photo) originally built in the old times to reduce the intensity of waves, reduce erosion and protect boats and ships anchored in Dubrovnik’s harbor. It is a very popular Dubrovnik sight to stroll to when walking around the Old Town.
2. ST. JOHN'S FORTRESS (TVRĐAVA SVETOG IVANA) One of the key forts in the Dubrovnik City walls defense complex is most certainly the Fortress of St. John, often called Mulo tower. It is a complex monumental fortress located on the south-eastern side of the old city port, controlling and protecting the entrance of the port.The side toward the sea is round and lower part of the wall is inclined, while the part facing the port has flat vertical walls.
3. MINČETA TOWER dominates the highest north-western part of the City. This round tower at the highest point of the city walls was originally built in 1319 as a square tower to protect the landward edge of the city from attack. In TV's Game of Thrones, its exterior doubled as the House of the Undying in Qarth.
4. LARGE ONOFRIO’S FOUNTAIN As soon as you enter into the Old Town to Stradun through the Pile Gate on your right side you will see the large rounded polygonal shape structure with a cupola and 16 water taps. This is the well known Large Onofrio’s Fountain, designed in 1438 by the prominent Italian architect Onofrio di Giordano della Cava.
5. ST. SAVIOUR CHURCH, DUBROVNIK ( CRKVA SVETOG SPASA)
St. Saviour Church, Dubrovnik (Croatian: Crkva Svetog Spasa) is a small votive church located in Dubrovnik's Old Town. It is dedicated to Jesus Christ.
6. STRADUN , whose name derives from Venetian, and means "large road" or "wide road", is the main street of Dubrovnik, Croatia. The limestone-paved pedestrian street runs some 300 metres through the Old Town, the historic part of the city surrounded by the Walls of Dubrovnik.
7. St. DOMINIC STREET. This must be one of the most beautiful streets in Dubrovnik. Here a lot of market scenes were filmed. (Season 2 Episode 5 The Ghost of Harrenhal). Stradun is the most famous street in Dubrovnik, but we could say St. Dominic Street is the most recently significant. It is the connection between Ploče gate and Stradun and goes past the Dominican monastery, whence its name.
8. St BLAISE'S CHURCH (Crkva Svetog Vlaha). The Church of St. Blaise is a Baroque church in Dubrovnik and one of the city's major sights. Saint Blaise (St. Vlaho), identified by medieval Slavs with the pagan god Veles, is the patron saint of the city of Dubrovnik and formerly the protector of the independent Republic of Ragusa.
9. GUNDULIĆEVA POLJANA: an open-air market in Dubrovnik Old Town. Gundulićeva Poljana is the open-air market in the Old Town that has numerous stalls full of seasonal fruit and vegetables as well as other local products like dried lavender, lavender oil, locally produced Grappa, and other fantastic brandies.
10. BUŽA BAR is reputed to be one of the most beautiful bars in Dubrovnik due to its position on the cliffs right above the sea, giving a pretty amazing panorama across the Adriatic. It is also known as the “hole-in-the-wall” and it is the ‘essence’ of Dubrovnik, where they say, visitors become locals.
In the old Dubrovnik dialect, buža means ‘hole’, and to get to this unique café bar, you have to go through the hole-in-the-wall.
11. Rector's PALACE
The Rector's Palace (Croatian: Knežev dvor) is a palace in the city of Dubrovnik that used to serve as the seat of the Rector of the Republic of Ragusa between the 14th century and 1808. The Rector's Palace was built in the Gothic style, but it also has Renaissance and Baroque elements, harmoniously combining these elements.
12. JESUIT STAIRS
Lovely and elegant Baroque stairs just off Gunduliceva Poljana leading up to the Jesuit Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola and 17th-century.Just turn right turn from Gundulićeva Poljana and you are there – on the footsteps of Baroque stairs similar to well known Spanish Steps in Rome.

14. BANJE BEACH
Banje Beach is the best known of Dubrovnik’s public beaches and it is located just a few minutes’ walk from the historical centre of the city.
