Kagbeni is one of the most beautiful and culturally rich villages in Mustang, Nepal. It lies at the junction of the Jhong and Kali Gandaki rivers, often called the “Gateway to Upper Mustang.” Situated at about 2,800 meters above sea level, Kagbeni is a traditional village that reflects a unique blend of Tibetan culture and Himalayan lifestyle.
The village is famous for its narrow alleys, mud-brick houses, old fort ruins, and the ancient Kag Chhyoling Monastery, which holds great spiritual importance. Walking through Kagbeni feels like stepping back in time, as the village still preserves its centuries-old traditions and architecture.
Kagbeni also offers breathtaking views of the Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri ranges. Travelers often stop here on their way to Muktinath or Upper Mustang. It’s also popular among trekkers of the Annapurna Circuit and Jomsom–Muktinath trail.
The place is well known for apple orchards, buckwheat fields, and the strong winds that blow almost every afternoon. Kagbeni’s charm lies in its peaceful environment, warm hospitality, and its role as a cultural and historical hub in Mustang.
👉 In short, Kagbeni is not just a stopover but a destination full of natural beauty, ancient culture, and Himalayan spirit.
