Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
Divertimento No. 4 for wind ensemble in B-flat major, K. 186/159b (with Score)
Composed: 1773
Performance: Bläser der Berliner Philharmoniker
0:00 1. Allegro assai (B-flat major)
1:36 2. Menuetto - Trio (B-flat major - F major)
3:55 3. Andante (B-flat major)
5:59 4. Adagio (B-flat major)
8:31 5. Allegro (B-flat major)
The rather straightforward opening Allegro assai is a Ländler that functions as an Intrada to the rest of the work. Originally, Mozart had a different Trio in mind, one written for two oboes and bassoon, but this was crossed out and replaced with another featuring a dialogue between the oboes and the English horns, supported by the bass. The theme of the final Allegro is identical to No. 31 in K. 135a. Although the explicit indication is missing from the autograph the horns in K. 186/159b are corni alti in B [high horns in B-flat].
