After my adventure in the Togean Islands, I continue my Sabang to Merauke journey, riding into Palu, the capital of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. This city has a tragic past, having endured a devastating earthquake, tsunami, and liquefaction in 2018. In this episode, I explore how Palu has recovered and meet locals who share their experiences.

I start my journey by seeing Palu from above—soaring through the skies on a thrilling paragliding adventure from the mountaintops!

🚗 Driving Through the Liquefaction Zone
With my local friend Oka, we set out to understand the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami. We visit the liquefaction area, where entire neighbourhoods were swallowed by the earth. Driving through this landscape is a surreal experience.

🏥 Heartbreaking Stories from Nasanapura Hospital
At Nasanapura Hospital, where the liquefaction stopped, we meet doctors and staff who recount the terrifying night of the earthquake and tsunami. Hearing their firsthand experiences makes the tragedy feel incredibly real.

🍽 A Taste of Palu & Next Adventure Teaser
After an emotional visit, I take a break at my favorite restaurant in Palu, enjoying some great food before preparing for the next leg of my journey—to the remote regions of Bada and Besoa!
