[4K Seoul Walk] 서소문성지 역사박물관 Seosomun Shrine Historic Museum

서울역에서 도보로 약 10분이면 도착할 수 있는 서소문성지역사박물관을 방문해보았습니다. '20년 여름에 오픈한 이 박물관은 한국의 주요 유명 건축물로서 자리매김하고 있습니다. 조선 중기 이후 400여 년 동안 국사범의 처형장으로 이용되었다고 하는 이곳은 특히 많은 천주교인들이 처형되었던 장소이기도 합니다. 철길 옆이라 공용주차장으로 활용되던 이 곳이 멋진 건축물로 탈바꿈하여 서울 시민들에게 훌륭한 문화공간과 휴식장소로 변모했습니다. 마침 현대불교미술전 – 공(空) Śūnyatā이라는 특별전시가 진행되고 있어 더 많은 볼거리를 제공해주고 있었습니다. 타종교에 대한 열린 사고를 보여주는 이 전시는 많은 것을 느끼게 해줍니다. 입장료는 무료이며, 월요일은 휴관입니다.

I visited the Seosomun Shrine History Museum near Seoul Sation. It takes about 10 minutes on foot from Seoul Station. The museum opened in the summer of the year 2020 and became one of the major modern architectures in Seoul and Korea. This location had been used as an execution site for national traitors for more than 400 years since mid-Chosun Dynasty and especially many Catholics were executed there for refusing to deny their faith. This location next to the railroad used to be a public parking lot but has been transformed into wonderful architecture providing Seoul citizens with a great cultural space and resting place. When I visited there, there was a special exhibition called "Modern Buddhist Art Exhibition – 공(空) Śūnyatā. This exhibition was more meaningful to me in that it shows Korean Catholic's open thinking about other religions and their effort to co-existence with them. The admission is free and it closes on Monday.
