The Sevoke–Rangpo railway project, a landmark initiative of Indian Railways under the Northeast Frontier Railway, is now in its final stages, bringing Sikkim closer to its first-ever rail connectivity. Most of the tunnels on the 44.96-km broad-gauge line are nearly complete, with only one or two pending, while track laying using ballastless track (BLT) technology is progressing steadily.
During a site visit, NewsStation Editor Siddharatha interacted with ground workers engaged in firefighting systems, signalling, telecom, optical fiber, and electrification works inside Tunnel T1. Once completed, the line will connect Sevoke in West Bengal to Rangpo in Sikkim, marking a major engineering milestone.
