2020 Audi Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI quattro S tronic 228 Hp

Following in the footsteps of the larger Q8 is the new Q3 Sportback, a sleeker take on the all-new Q3 crossover that offers more style at the sacrifice of cargo space and is aimed squarely at the BMW X2. Compared with the standard Q3, the Sportback has a coupelike roofline with a much more raked rear hatch, and Audi is positioning it as the sportier option for style-conscious buyers.
The Sportback's roof is 1.1 inch lower than the regular Q3 and overall length has been increased by about half an inch, but the Sportback is actually a tiny bit less wide. In addition to the roof, the Sportback is differentiated by sportier bumpers and side skirts, and contrasting body cladding and trim in either a dark gray or a gloss black are available.

Everything about the interior is identical to the standard Q3 until you get to the back seat. While the three-across rear seat reclines and can be moved fore and aft, headroom in the Sportback looks noticeably tighter, although Audi doesn't give specific figures. Surprisingly, the Sportback actually offers the same 19 cubic feet of cargo space as the standard Q3 when the rear seats are up, but with them folded the Sportback's cargo hold is 5 cubic feet smaller.

In Europe, the Q3 Sportback will have the same range of gas and diesel engines as its standard counterpart, with one new addition. Early next year, the Q3 Sportback will gain a new base 1.5-liter turbo four engine with a 48-volt hybrid system. Quattro all-wheel drive is available on higher-end models, and some engines can be paired with a manual transmission.

So far the Q3 Sportback has only been announced for European markets, but we expect it to make its way to the United States next year. In the U.S., the Sportback would likely come with the same singular powertrain configuration as the regular Q3, a 228-hp turbo four mated to an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Expect a cost of entry a few thousand dollars dearer than the Q3's $35,695 base price.
