Water pump maintenance for your small outboard motor can be done at home in your garage or shop. Once you have ordered the proper replacement impeller part number from websites like boats.net or marineengine.com and removed the lower unit from the outboard, the old water pump impeller is removed by unbolting the water pump housing and sliding it up and off of the drive shaft.
Be careful to not lose the small metalic key in the notch of the drive shaft that fits into the slot of the impeller.
Watch the video to see an example of how an impeller was improperly installed and see the technique to make sure the impeller fins are oriented in the correct direction when you install yours.
