NaliniDinesh Sarasa AtmA RAma - Arabhi - TisraAta-Shahaji

A Marathi composition by Thanjavur Maratha king Shahaji (1684-1710 AD)- an elegant narration of the Ramayana in 6 verses . The word AtmaRAma is a spiritual pointer - a compound word of आत्मन् and आराम, meaning “delighting in self”, one who strives for spiritual knowledge. Every character and incident in the Ramayana has spiritual significance. This song is a lovely amalgamation of King Shahaji’s spiritual sadhana and poetic skill. Quoting Swami Chinmayananda: “The entire story of the Ramayana has a spiritual background. That is the reason why it is so popular. The average man is happy with the story. But even the man of Realisation enjoys Ramayana , because he sees in and through the story , the entire Vedantic Wisdom, echoing and re-echoing as a melody Divine.”
