At age 17, Brooke was having breathing problems. The diagnosis – a very rare form of lung cancer. Brooke went through almost four years of treatment and pain management, and came to see her care team at BC Children's Hospital as a second family. Brooke earned her wings on October 17, 2015 and her legacy continues through her wish to have funds raised for cancer research programs at BC Children's Hospital.
