Renton is a vibrant city located just south of Seattle, offering a fantastic quality of life and a range of amenities. Whether you're a nature lover, a sports enthusiast, or a foodie, Renton has something for everyone!
#1 tip, and arguably the best thing about Renton, is the prime location that makes for a super easy commute. With its proximity to major highways, including I-405 and I-5, Renton offers an easy commute to downtown Seattle, Bellevue, and other neighboring cities. It's smack dab in the middle, so 20 minutes to downtown, 10-15 minutes to Bellevue, 30 minutes to Tacoma, 30 minutes to Snohomish, you get the convenience of living close to work while having a variety of residential options to choose from. Not to mention the light rail is slowly making it's way down, which will offer even more transportation and ease of access throughout the Puget Sound area so watch out for that. Now we do experience a good amount of rush hour traffic, because our major freeways literally run straight through the middle of Renton you can get stuck in some bumper to bumper traffic during those busy times and that will increase your commute, so watch out for that.
#2 Beautiful outdoor spaces: Renton offers an abundance of natural beauty and outdoor spaces. The city is home to multiple parks, including Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park, where you get stunning views of Lake Washington and a range of recreational activities like kayaking, boating, even dock and drink and the Hyatt hotel. With numerous hiking trails, waterfront access, and green spaces, Renton provides plenty of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to explore and enjoy nature.
#3 Rich cultural heritage - Renton has a rich cultural heritage that is celebrated throughout the city. From the Renton History Museum, showcasing the city's past, to a diverse range of cultural events, community festivals, and small business events, there's always something happening in Renton. It's a great thing to embrace the vibrant community spirit and discover the local arts, cuisine, and traditions that make Renton unique.
#4 Renton has a thriving economy and great job opportunities - With companies like Boeing, PACCAR, and Valley Medical Center located in Renton, the city provides a strong employment base. Additionally, nearby cities like Bellevue and Seattle offer tons of employment options within a short commute. Renton offers a diverse and robust job market right at your doorstep.
#5 Shopping and Dining - Renton offers a fantastic array of shopping and dining experiences. The Landing is where it's at, located right next to the Boeing plant, the Landing is a vibrant shopping center with a mix of retail stores, restaurants, and entertainment options. Exit 5 is my favorite restaurant in Renton, they've got great Korean BBQ, it's always busy, other great places are Trencher's Pub, Wildfin, and Nibbana Thai. Downtown Renton is also a hub for local businesses, featuring unique boutiques, eateries, and a lively farmer's market. I love Renton's diverse foodie scene, and then again if you feel like going downtown, Seattle and Bellevue are just a short drive away.
Lastly, our 6th thing to know about Renton is that we have a wide variety of housing options! If you're looking at Zillow or Redfin, Renton is one of those cities where you'll see houses available for $400,000 in Renton, and then you'll see houses well into the millions.
In a nutshell, your more affordable areas in Renton, which also happen to be very family friendly, are downtown Renton, Fairwood, and the Renton Highlands. These areas are pretty suburban while still super close to good schools and amenities. Our higher end markets are Kennydale and May Creek, this is where you'll find waterfront properties, luxury homes, the real estate is a lot more valuable here because it's closer to Bellevue, these areas are generally safer, and they offer proximity to the water and great views of Lake Washington.
So if you're seeing large disparities between pricing, it's because the neighborhoods in Renton are quite vastly different.
