Navigation Bridge Tour Of A Mega Cargo Ship

Welcome back to another Day At Sea .
In this video , I will be giving you all a detailed explanation of How A Cargo Ships Control Station looks like . ( i.e The Navigation Bridge )

The bridge is a room or platform of a ship from which the ship can be commanded. When a ship is under way, the bridge is manned by an officer of the watch aided usually by an able seaman acting as a lookout. During critical maneuvers the captain will be on the bridge, often supported by an officer of the watch, an able seaman on the wheel and sometimes a pilot, if required.

As a captain of the ship or a navigator , the bridge has to be attended 24 hours x 7 for navigating her from one destination to another .

You will find small explanations of all equipments on the bridge like :
RADAR , ECDIS , Echo Sounders , Steering Wheel , GMDSS equipments , Search & Rescue equipments , Conning Displays , GPS , Main Engine Telegraph, Compass etc.

The navigation station of a ship is located on the bridge or in a separate chart room, nearby. It includes a table sized for nautical charts where calculations of course and location are made. The navigator plots the course to be followed by the ship on these charts. Besides the desk and the navigation charts, the area contains navigational instruments that may include electronic equipment for a Global Positioning System receiver and chart display, a compass, a marine chronometer, two-way radios, and radiotelephone, etc.

This would be very helpful for Cadets aspiring to be Navigators in the Merchant Navy .
