Hicaz Hümayun Saz Semaisi – Veli Dede | Classical Turkish Music

Veli Dede (d. 1768) was a renowned Neyzen (Ney flute master) and a dervish of the Mevlevi Order in Bursa and Istanbul. His works are celebrated for their spiritual depth and technical brilliance, reflecting the sophisticated art of the Sufi lodges.

Composed by the legendary Veli Dede (Bursalı Veli Dede) in the 18th century, this piece is a cornerstone of the Mevlevi musical heritage. It is written in the Hicaz Hümayun makam, a melodic mode known for its deep emotional resonance, blending melancholy with a sense of majesty. The rhythmic structure follows the Aksak Semai (10/8 meter), typical of the "Saz Semaisi" form, which traditionally concludes a classical suite (Fasıl).
