Inside Cyprus' $150 Billion Abandoned City

Varosha used to be one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. It was once a world-class beach resort and visited by many famous movie stars and wealthy business executives. In the 1960s and early 1970s, the resort was expanding and luxury hotels were being built along the beach. Today, the resort is a ghost town because Turkey invaded the area in 1974. Residents fled the area and the beach resort was fenced off. Today, the resort sits behind three military zones, and Varosha is completely surrounded by chain-link fencing topped with barbed wire.
