Material Coordinator – Job Description
A Material Coordinator oversees the flow of materials within a company to ensure production, projects, or operations run smoothly. They manage inventory, track material usage, coordinate with suppliers, and ensure that all materials are delivered on time and in the correct quantities. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with purchasing, warehouse, and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Inventory Management
Monitor and maintain accurate inventory levels.
Perform regular stock checks and update inventory records.
Identify shortages or excess materials and take corrective actions.
2. Material Planning & Coordination
Schedule and coordinate material deliveries based on production or project needs.
Ensure all materials are available on time to avoid delays.
Communicate with production teams to forecast future material requirements.
3. Supplier & Vendor Coordination
Work with suppliers to place orders and track shipments.
Resolve issues such as late deliveries, damaged materials, or incorrect orders.
Maintain good relationships with vendors for smooth operations.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and update records such as purchase orders, delivery notes, and inventory logs.
Generate reports on material usage, inventory status, and stock movements.
5. Warehouse & Storage Support
Coordinate with warehouse staff for proper storing, organizing, and labeling of materials.
Ensure safe handling and storage procedures are followed.
6. Process Improvement
Identify inefficiencies in material flow and suggest improvements.
Help optimize supply chain processes to reduce waste and costs.
