This year, 13 Taiwanese companies and organizations are recognized among the Top 100 Global Innovators 2025. It’s the fourth consecutive year for Taiwan to be the third most-awarded country in the world. It’s also the ninth consecutive year for the Industrial Technology Research Institute, or ITRI to make the cut.
Representatives for 13 Taiwanese organizations, including ITRI, TSMC, Foxconn, MediaTek and Quanta Computer stand in a line to pose for a photo. They’re all featured among the Top 100 Global Innovators 2025. ITRI in particular is receiving the honor for the ninth consecutive year.
Vasheharan Kanesarajah
VP in Corporate Strategy, Clarivate
Considering the size of the nation, to have 13 winners is not short of extraordinary, which is a monumental achievement for the nation. What’s even more exciting about the innovation that’s happening here is that Taiwan has maintained this strength for a number of different years, shifting from a manufacturing, semiconductor hub, to now becoming a global innovator.
This year, ITRI continues to promote the monetization of intangible assets, successfully assisting SMEs to obtain bank financing with their patents. At the same time, ITRI has created an AI-powered patent analysis system that uses AI to compare the relevance and similarity between documents, which greatly shortens the time required for patent examination.
Lai Chien-hsin
Vice Minister of Economic Affairs
We hope to lean on your efforts and strength to build up the 1.67 million SMEs in Taiwan. This will be a force to be reckoned with. And we will also increase our efforts implementing related measures in the future.
Clarivate, a US analytics company has been publishing its Top 100 Global Innovators report since 2011. To qualify for the longlist, the organization must have a certain number of granted inventions. Then, their inventions are measured by levels of influence, investment, success and rarity. This year, 13 organizations from Taiwan emerged from a longlist of 1.1 million worldwide, making the achievement even more remarkable.
Edwin Liu
ITRI President
We hope that patents can become a strategy for entering the market. Most importantly, we hope to promote the monetization of intellectual properties. They certainly aren’t tools for defense. We hope that with our respect for intangible assets and intellectual properties, we can carve out a market. And finally, I’ll end on the same note. See you next year.
With continued efforts and government backing, Taiwan again lets itself be known as a top innovator worldwide.
