Yoido Full Gospel Church started with the first worship service led
by Pastor Yonggi Cho and Pastor Jashil Choi at her house located in
Daejodong, Seodaemungu (now Eunpyeonggu) on May 18, 1958.
Thereafter the tent church grew and moved to Seodaemun, and day after day it grew to have over 10,000 members, and it was no longer
able to hold them. Because it needed a bigger area, through the earnest prayer and devotion of the believers the new sanctuary was built in Yoido, a devastated island which was used only as a runway for airplanes without any bridge to the land, and there the first worship service was held in August 19, 1973.
A bright future of the church was opened with the start of a dedication service at the newly built Yoido sanctuary with a large attendance of
10,000 members on September 23.
Later, Yoido Full Gospel Church kept growing to 100,000 members in 1979, 200,000 in 1982, 400,000 in 1984, over 500,000 in 1985, and finally the world's largest church with 700,000 in 1992.
