This video explores the history and landmarks of Pennsboro, a small town in Ritchie County, West Virginia, founded in the early 1800s by Revolutionary War veteran John Bunnell and later laid out by Charles Penn. The arrival of the B&O Railroad and later U.S. Route 50 made it a key stop between Clarksburg and Parkersburg, with the historic depot and the North Bend Rail Trail still preserving its railroad heritage. The town’s population peaked in 1950 before declining like many Appalachian communities, and it remains known for attractions such as the Pennsboro Speedway, once home to major dirt track racing events. In this video, we also explore two of the old railroad tunnels along the trail—Tunnel 7 and Tunnel 8—walking through their dark, historic passageways and experiencing a unique piece of Pennsboro’s past.
