Second Genesis - Children of the Atom | X-Men Behind the Scenes

Initially conceived as a "young X-Men" story focusing on characters like Cyclops, Wolverine, and Storm, the idea evolved over time. Simon Kinberg's enthusiasm for the First Class comics brought the concept back to life, shifting the narrative focus to the early days of Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, and their contrasting philosophies. As the project took shape, the team faced the challenge of balancing a fresh, youthful energy without veering too closely into familiar high school tropes or the vibe of movies like Twilight. With Bryan Singer's involvement, the story was refocused to emphasize the complex relationship between Charles and Erik during the 1960s, a period rich with historical significance like the Cuban Missile Crisis. The filmmakers discuss the hurdles they encountered, including tight schedules and budget constraints, as well as the search for the right director. Matthew Vaughn, who had previously stepped away from X-Men 3, returned with renewed confidence and vision.
