For the very first time in February 2017, the Sultanate of Oman opened its territory to archeologists. Dr. Guillaume Gernez, specialist of the archaeology of Arabia and the ancient Near East, directed excavations at Mudhmar. Using the latest digital protocols, they already excavated 3 sites of major importance to better understand the Bronze Age and early Pre-Islamic Era in the Southeast part of the Arabian peninsula where Nomadic tribes thrived before Middle Eastern Empires overtook power.
