Born out of an intense rivalry with the BMW M3, the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 was the result of a collaboration with the famous Cosworth engineering company. It was the Brits who took the standard 2.3-liter, 8-valve engine and upgraded it. Later on, the engine was enlarged to 2.5 liters, and this is how the 190E 2.5-16 version was created. Later on, it was the turn of the homologation versions Evolution I and Evolution II, which are the essence of this model. In the case of Evolution II, 232 hp was achieved already in the civilian version. The chassis of the W201 was strengthened by larger stabilizers, harder bushings, a limited-slip differential, quicker responding dampers, and a shorter steering ratio. Getrag supplied a five-speed dogleg transmission to provide quick and easy gear selection. The Evo II offered at auction is number 106 of 502 produced. It was delivered new to the Mercedes-Benz showroom in Frankfurt in April 1990. The exterior, covered in the model's standard shade of Blauschwarz Metallic with anthracite leather, presents itself very well. The car's paperwork confirms equipment with heated seats, an outside temperature sensor, a power sunroof, rear speakers, an airbag, and a radio. The Evo II also has an additional pair of optional spoilers: a fixed front wing and a rear spoiler mounted below the larger rear wing.
