Pav bhaji recipe in Tamil / Easy evening snacks recipe for kids

Mumbai-Style Pav Bhaji
Ingredients
For the bhaji:
Potatoes – 3 medium (boiled and mashed)
Green peas – ½ cup (boiled 150 gms)
Carrot – 2 medium (finely chopped or boiled and mashed)
Capsicum – 1 small (finely chopped)
Onion – 2 medium (finely chopped)
Tomato – 2 large (finely chopped or pureed)
Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tablespoon
Pav bhaji masala – 2 tablespoons
Red chilli powder – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon
Butter – 2 tablespoons (+ more for garnish and toasting pav)
Oil – 1 tablespoon
Salt – as needed
Water – as required
Fresh coriander leaves – 2 tablespoons (finely chopped)
Lemon – 1 (wedges for serving)
For the pav:
Pav buns – 8
Butter – as needed
Pav bhaji masala – a pinch (optional for toasting)
Method
Heat the base:
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil and 2 tablespoons of butter in a heavy tawa or pan.
Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn light golden.
Add flavour:
Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell goes off.
Then add capsicum and carrot; cook for 2–3 minutes till slightly soft.
Tomato base:
Add the chopped tomatoes and cook till they turn soft and mushy and oil starts separating.
Spice mix:
Lower the flame and add turmeric, red chilli powder, pepper powder, corriander powder, jeera powder and pav bhaji masala.
Stir well so the spices roast in the buttery base for 30 seconds.
Add the veggies:
Add the boiled and mashed potatoes and peas.
Pour ½–1 cup hot water to adjust the thickness and mash continuously with a ladle or masher.
The mixture should turn smooth, thick, and deep orange in colour.
Simmer and blend:
Cover and cook on low flame for 5–7 minutes.
Open, stir, and let the aroma fill the kitchen.
Finish with a spoon of butter and chopped coriander leaves.
Toast the pav:
Heat a tawa, spread a teaspoon of butter and a pinch of pav bhaji masala.
Slice each pav bun horizontally and toast both sides until golden and crisp.
Serving
Serve hot bhaji with buttered pav, a slice of lemon, and chopped onions on the side.
Top the bhaji with a dollop of butter and a sprinkle of fresh coriander.
Perfect for an evening snack or a weekend treat — rich, spicy, and comforting in every spoonful.
