The completion of Beijing Daxing International Airport, in addition to replacing the first airport in Chinese history - Beijing Nanyuan Airport [6], also diverted the passenger traffic pressure of Beijing Capital International Airport, the largest and busiest civil airport in China.
Beijing Daxing International Airport is located on the north bank of Yongding, between Yufa Town, Lixian Town, Daxing District, Beijing, China and Guangyang District, Langfang City, Hebei Province. It is about 26 kilometers from the center of Langfang City, 46 kilometers from Tiananmen Square, Beijing , 67 kilometers from Beijing Shoudu International Airport, 55 kilometers from Xiong'an New District, Hebei Province, and 85 kilometers from Tianjin Binhai International Airport.
Beijing Daxing International Airport is positioned as a large international aviation hub. It plans to build four runways to meet the annual passenger throughput of 100 million person times. Daxing Airport will become an important international airport in North China after its completion. The current Phase I project of Beijing Daxing International Airport is designed according to the target of passenger throughput of 72 million person times, cargo throughput of 2 million tons, and aircraft takeoff and landing volume of 620000 in 2025. The grade index of the airfield is 4F, and the total project investment is 79.98 billion yuan.

北京大兴国际机场的建成，除了取代中国历史上第一个机场—北京南苑机场外，亦分流了目前中国规模最大和最繁忙的民用机场—北京首都国际机场的客运压力。
北京大兴国际机场位于永定河北岸，位于中国北京市大兴区榆垡镇、礼贤镇和河北省廊坊市广阳区之间，距廊坊市市中心直线距离约26公里，距北京市天安门广场直线距离约46公里，距北京首都国际机场约67公里，距河北雄安新区约55公里，距天津滨海国际机场约85公里。
北京大兴国际机场定位为大型国际航空枢纽，规划建设4条跑道，满足年旅客吞吐量一亿人次需求。大兴机场建成后将成为华北地区重要的国际机场。目前启用的北京大兴国际机场一期工程，按2025年旅客吞吐量7200万人次、货邮吞吐量200万吨、飞机起降量62万架次的目标设计，飞行区等级指标为4F，工程总投资799.8亿人民币。
