Natural disasters not only impact those who are directly affected by their sheer destructible potential, but they also create aftershocks that weaken individuals and communities across the globe. Dr Kate Brady sheds light on an issue that we, as a community, are far too often ignorant of: the fact that even after the earthquake has passed, even after the tallest wave has crashed, even after the storm has settled, the disaster continues. A self-proclaimed “disaster recovery nerd”, Dr. Kate Brady has spent over a decade shaping how Australia – and the world – thinks about life after crisis. From leading as a National Recovery Adviser for Australian Red Cross Emergency Services to working as a Senior Research Fellow at UNSW’s for How We Survive initiative, Dr. Brady brings sharp insight into what has long been overlooked: the sobering reality of disaster recovery.
