Learn about The Inclusion Body Myositis Disease Registry at Yale with this special speaker presentation hosted by TMA Men Managing Myositis Affinity Group. The Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM) Disease Registry at Yale houses one of the world’s largest systematic categorizations of IBM: its origins, its biological markers, its risk profile, its natural history, and its clinical management.
This presentation highlights the origins and impact of the Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM) Patient Registry, a vital resource for advancing research into this complex disease. Launched in 2011 through a collaboration with researchers at Yale University, the registry was made possible by seed funding from the late Dr. Martin Shubik—a retired Yale economics professor and renowned game theorist who was himself diagnosed with IBM. Dr. Shubik’s vision and advocacy helped catalyze this initiative through the Yale School of Public Health.
The Myositis Association (TMA) community played a pivotal role, contributing the majority of the 900 initial participants. Dr. Baskar Roy, who developed an interest in IBM as a neuromuscular fellow during the late 2010s, has since become a dedicated champion of the registry and its ongoing development.
