Using a Real Leslie Speaker with Guitar

Ever wondered how Eric Clapton got that iconic swirling tone on the Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”? 🎸

In this video, I demo a custom guitar cabinet built out of an old Leslie speaker—just like the one Clapton used in the original recording. The Leslie’s rotating speaker design creates a rich, vocal-like movement that gave the solo its haunting, unforgettable sound.

I’ll play through the solo, explain how the Leslie works, and show how my friend repurposed one into a guitar cab. It’s part history lesson, part gear demo, and a whole lot of fun for Beatles fans, tone chasers, and guitar nerds alike.
