On The Ballad Tree facebook group Jim Carroll posted the words for this Wexford variant from Patrick Kennedy's 'Banks of the Boro', with no tune but inviting attempts. There are endless possibilities, this is structured Dm/Gm/C/A7 chords un-resolving to G major leaving each verse hanging for the next. The guitar is my £199 Sigma which now gets played more than my 'good' instruments and it's just a direct video on Sony A7IV with their digital on-camera mic. There are some mistakes, couple of words where the vowels insisted on shifting and a 'she' where a 'he' should have been. I have made some changed to improve the coherence of the ballad (in the original she had seven sons and an eighth in her womb, then seven years later only has seven sons and counts them one-two-three... something has got muddled there in transmission so I've given her two sons and one unborn, which seems more likely for presumably young girl. There were of course Henry, William, Matilda and Eleanor in the Norman/Plantagenet line but not all together and with these relationships. And Thomas?
