Preached at the Confirmation Service of St. James C.O.U Karuhembe, this sermon by Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe draws from Luke 19:1–9—the story of Zacchaeus. Bishop Onesimus explains that some Bible commentators compare Zacchaeus’ short stature to the diminishing nature of sin, reminding believers that sin degrades, dehumanizes, and destroys destinies.
He urges Christians to flee from adultery and all sexual immorality, but also highlights Zacchaeus’ determination to see Jesus. Knowing Jesus would never pass through Jericho again, Zacchaeus seized the moment—climbing a sycamore tree to encounter the Savior.
Bishop Onesimus challenges husbands to support their wives, stressing that spouses are partners, not slaves. He also condemns corruption, bribery, and abuse of public office, warning that stolen money carries no blessing. He expresses concern over health workers and police officers who demand money before offering services.
Speaking against tribalism, he encourages believers to honor each other and address people by their proper names. Just as Jesus called Zacchaeus by name, He knows each of His children personally, as affirmed in Isaiah 43:1.
The service concluded with great spiritual impact—over 90 people gave their lives to Christ, and 84 Christians were confirmed.
