象与上古时代的先民关系非常密切，象被人们视为是长寿的象征。粗硕的象牙似锋利的长矛，又预示着勇猛。1976年，中国河南殷墟妇好墓出土了大量商代墓葬品，其中象牙雕夔纹嵌松石杯震惊世界，人们惊异于在中国这么早就出现了如此精美的雕刻工艺。

Elephants are very closely related to the ancestors of ancient times, and they are regarded as a symbol of longevity. The thick ivory is like a sharp spear, which also indicates bravery. In 1976, a large number of Shang Dynasty treasures were unearthed from the Fuhao Tomb in Yinxu, Henan, China. Among these treasures, the Ivory Carved Kui Pattern Inlaid Turquoise Cup shocked the world. People are amazed that such exquisite carving techniques appeared so early in China.
