Yoriichi Tsugikuni and Michikatsu Tsugikuni are identical twin brothers from the Sengoku Era of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba series, and their tragic relationship is a central part of the story's lore.

​Identical Twins: They were born as identical twins in a high-ranking family during a time when twins were often seen as an omen of bad luck.
​Yoriichi Tsugikuni: He is the younger twin and the strongest Demon Slayer in history. He is the creator of the original and most powerful Breathing Style, Sun Breathing. He was born with a Demon Slayer Mark and possessed unmatched natural abilities from a young age. He was kind, compassionate, and loved his brother dearly, even wanting to be the "second strongest samurai" to support Michikatsu's dream.
​Michikatsu Tsugikuni (Kokushibo): He is the elder twin who later became the demon Kokushibo, holding the position of Upper Rank One of the Twelve Kizuki. Michikatsu dreamed of becoming the strongest samurai. However, his immense talent and achievements were constantly and effortlessly overshadowed by Yoriichi's natural genius.
​The Flute: As children, Michikatsu made a small wooden flute for Yoriichi, which Yoriichi cherished and kept with him until his death, a symbol of their early bond.
​Jealousy and Transformation: Michikatsu became consumed by jealousy and inferiority toward Yoriichi's unparalleled strength and natural talent, despite Yoriichi's kindness and selfless acts. This resentment led Michikatsu to abandon his family, join the Demon Slayer Corps, and eventually accept a proposal from Muzan Kibutsuji to become a demon in pursuit of strength and a long life to surpass his brother.
​Tragic Encounter: The brothers met again decades later, with Michikatsu as a powerful demon, Kokushibo. Yoriichi was deeply saddened by what his brother had become and attempted to kill him to stop him. Yoriichi died of old age standing up during this final encounter, a feat that still terrified Kokushibo, who could not even turn him into a demon.
​Their story is a profound exploration of sibling rivalry, jealousy, and the contrasting paths taken by two individuals born with similar potential, one choosing compassion and the other choosing a desperate, destructive pursuit of strength.
